There is a decent chance that these ore veins not only include steel and silver used for upgrading gear, but several Gems as well. However, one of the best places to find Gems are in the many Ore Veins that are located all over the open regions, and often found in rocky terrain, high mountains, or cave passages. It won't be until Level 15 that you'll start to find both Gems and Socketed Gear. When you first begin playing Diablo 4 with a new Character, you won't be able to find Gems at all, because Diablo 4 has specific requirements for what level Gems can be used and upgraded. For example, Gems placed in weapons tend to increase your damage output, while ones placed in armor increased life or resistance to certain elements. When inspecting a Gem, you can highlight it to see that it will imbue gear with different kinds of bonuses depending on the type, quality, and which gear the Gem is placed in. They are comprised of various and distinctive colors, including red Rubies, blue Sapphires, green Emeralds, and even Skulls. Gems first made their appearance in Diablo 2, and could be found by defeating enemies, looting chests, or found in other places of the world.
